‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Spoilers: Damon Salvatore Will ‘Be Messy With His Choices’ In New Episodes? [VIDEO]
Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) has been viewed as a bad guy; good guy and apparently he'll be heading back to his roots of being seen as a villain in the upcoming seventh season of The Vampire Diaries.
Will Stefan 'Take To The Role Of A Hero' In 'The Vampire Diaries' Next Season?
Last month, Somerhalder teased to TV Guide that he's "excited to tell these f---ed up, dark, sexy, edgy, volatile stories."
"Now we get to go back to really great storytelling that was the Season 1 and 2 of the show that we all loved. I want that Damon back," he explained.
Damon will be evolving in the forthcoming season since he's trying to cope with the fact that his girlfriend Elena (Nina Dobrev) has essentially turned into Sleeping Beauty thanks to Kai (Chris Wood). Kai linked Elena's life to Bonnie's (Kat Graham) so for as long as Bonnie lives, Elena will sleep or if Bonnie dies in the near future Elena will awaken, but that seems unlikely since Dobrev has concluded her time on the series (at least for now).
Over the weekend the 2015 ATX Television Festival took place in Austin, Texas and The Vampire Diaries co-creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson were part of a panel, explaining more details of what will happen to Damon in the seventh season.
International Business Times reported on Sunday that Plec teased the audience by sharing, "What is the Season 1 version of Damon? The Season 1 version of Damon is the straight villain with what we learned was an obsession with a woman who just happened to look like our lead woman."
Plec added that throughout the series thus far Damon's story has changed time and time again. From his obsession "a love story" formed, as did "a hero story" and "a redemption story.
"So, he went though all those chapters. He went through redemption. He went through hero - at least partially. The root of him as a sassy, 'take no prisoners, do what you got to do to get it done,' anti-hero is still very much there," Plec stated.
"He now has more freedom to kind of be messy with his choices," Plec further dished, adding, "I think you'll see a darker Damon with the sort of wisdom of his experience, but a freedom to act out as he may feel like he needs to."
So Damon's going to become destructive it seems while his brother Stefan (Paul Wesley) becomes even more of a hero based on previously shared teasers of next season? It definitely should be an interesting season!
Williamson also let it be known that Season 7 will not repeat Season 1. It will definitely "feel completely unlike what we've seen before," according to him.
The series returns to The CW in the fall for Season 7.
