Oprah To Expand Her Empire With Organic Products
Oprah Winfrey is looking to add more to her empire that already includes a television network, a satellite radio show, lifestyle website, magazine and even a school in South Africa.
The media mogul, 58, is about to explore the world of organic products. Last month, several applications to trademark Oprah's Organics were filed to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Organization, the Daily Mail reported. These organics included bath soaps, sunscreen, massage oils, hair products, and food products such as organic salad dressings, frozen vegetables, soups, beverages and snack dips.
An application for an Oprah's Farm trademark for beverage and catering services, and another for Oprah Harvest have also been submitted recently. The addresses of these productions include the Wilshire Boulevard location of Winfrey's business and the Chicago office of Winfrey's Harpo Inc.
Winfrey's empire, which is now worth $2.7 billion, includes a girl's school in South Africa as well as hundreds of acres of land in Maui that has a large farm and a bed and breakfast, Mail reported.
"The trademarks were filed for Oprah's farm on Maui to enable the farm to grow and distribute produce on Maui and throughout the Hawaiian Islands," a representative of Winfrey told The New York Post.
The media mogul spent most of 2012 splitting her time between Montecito, Calif., and New Orleans, according to the Mail.
Winfrey is starring in a film called "The Butler," which is due out in 2013. She also topped Forbes' list of highest-paid celebrities this year for earning an estimated $165 million. The media mogul became a millionaire at the age of 32, after her talk show went national.
