Star Trek 3, or Star Trek Beyond as some have speculated, will be the first film in the reboot to focus on the Enterprises' five-year mission. Penned by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, the 2016 release will move farther away from the known villains of the TV series.
"I mean, this is the five-year mission now, we're out there," Pegg informed. "We don't always have to keep bumping into the same people - it's a massive universe....so we're going to try and reflect that in the movie."
