On Thursday, June 25, 5 Seconds of Summer's New Zealand and Australia leg of their Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour continued in Melbourne at the Rod Laver Arena.
5 Seconds of Summer Played 'Hometown Gig Of All Hometown Gigs' On ROWYSO Tour!
It is officially Friday, June 26, in Australia right now, but the band was quick to post all about their sold out gig at this venue on social media before it began and after it ended.
The day before the show the Aussies shared their limited edition tour poster for this stop.
On the day of the show, Michael Clifford tweeted, "Rod [L]aver holy s---balls," as if he were in shock abut getting to play there.
The band has played in this venue before as the opening act for their One Direction buddies in 2013, but this is their first time headlining at it. Drummer Ashton Irwin felt sure that the arena would "be rockin" during their set and surely it was given his tweet after the show.
He was in amazement that they played at the arena and even recalled how the band played one of their very first shows in Melbourne.
Clifford celebrated the success of the sold out show at Rod Laver by having a beer, which he opened "with a mouthwash bottle."
Bassist Calum Hood felt like he was on a serious high at this gig since he witnessed his dad in the crowd singing along, but it wasn't to just any of their songs. It's one Hood penned at the age of 15 in his bedroom.
"Thank you for giving me a chance to make him proud," he tweeted to his fans about what he witnessed his dad doing at the show.
Hours after the gig, Hood even shared a photo of himself with his bandmate Clifford. They seem like their full of happiness and loads of energy after playing to a great sold out crowd.
The band has two more dates in Australia before they head stateside!
