Oakley is an activist when it comes to the LGBTQ community. He is openly gay. He is actively involved with The Trevor Project, which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.
Last year the YouTuber actually received an award from The Trevor Project as seen in the video below. It was the Trevor Youth Innovator Award since Oakley works to support, inspire and empower the LGBTQ youth through his social media presence.

The YouTube personality received some pretty bad news about a friend he went to high school with.
Late Monday night into early Tuesday morning Oakley shared this friend committed suicide over the weekend so turning the tragic news into something meaningful, he urged anyone feeling "alone" to get in touch with The Trevor Project.
He said the news of his friend is "devastating." His tweets continued on a somber note when he made an "11:11" wish.
Fans of his got the hashtag "#MakeTylerSmile" going, which greatly brightened the YouTuber's mood.
"[L]love you all!" he gushed.
