Nicki Minaj Scared Of 'American Idol' Debut & Being 'Not So Nice'
Nicki Minaj is scared about her portrayal as a "not so nice" judge on the Fox television show "American Idol."
The 29-year-old singer told Ryan Seacrest on Monday that she is worried fans will judge her negatively when they see her giving harsh critiques to the contestants.
"I'm scared. Maybe I shouldn't have been so like... It's hard for me to not say how I really feel," Minaj said on Seacrest's radio show. "Everyone else is so nice. I was just thinking back about some things and I was like, 'I wonder if that was not so nice.' I don't think I'm going to be able to watch it. I'm going to be so nervous."
However, she added that the tough comments are necessary for an singer to hear, and that they helped her become better at her craft when she first starting singing.
"As an artist I've always grown more from the tougher criticism," she said "And so I would like to be that person and to try to help people get that thick skin and to really give it their all, because it is a competition."
Rumors suggested a feud was going strong between Minaj and Mariah Carey, who is also a new judge on "AI." Minaj addressed that topic on Seacrest's show as well, suggesting that the two might have made amends by saying "If she'll have me, I'll be there waiting."
"Al" return for its 12th season on Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. EST. The other judges are Keith Urban and Randy Jackson.
Minaj spoke to Seacrest only a day after she won big at the 40th Anniversary American Music Awards. She took home the honors for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hip Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded." She was the only woman nominated in both categories.
