Oprah Winfrey aired her annual televised special "Oprah's Favorite Things," and shocked the show's viewers with her impressive list of elaborate gifts featured in the December 2012 issue of O: Oprah magazine.

For this year's highly anticipated show, Winfrey selected military spouses- 29 women and one man- and flew them to Washington D.C for the biggest surprise of their life.

The guests assumed they were flown in to watch an episode of the new OWN reality series "Married to the Army: Alaska."

During the episode that originally aired on Sunday, Nov. 18, Winfrey personally came out to meet the guests and made a surprise announcement that they were the recipients of this year's "Favorite Things."

"There's no one in the world more deserving of the day you're about to have than you are," Winfrey said to explain why they were chosen.

The recipients learned they were selected by peers in their community for making daily sacrifices that are considered as heroic as their spouses serve in the military.

The solo male spouse, Jeremy Hilton, is the 2012 Military Spouse of the Year. Another recipient, Karen Guenther, is a military-hospital nurse and was a nominee for the 2011 Marine Corps Spouse of the Year because she helped raise and distribute $66 million to support wounded veterans.

The recipients then shared the difficulties of raising families with several deployments and caring for their wounded military spouses.

Some of the many gifts that were awarded were a Tempur-Cloud Supreme Mattress from TempurPedic, complete with 600-thread-count Egyptian-cotton sheets from Macy's Hotel Collection of bedding. The total value of the mattress is $2,699 and $1,500 for the bedding set. Seven truffle-flavored products, diamond necklaces, motorized bikes, elliptical machines, Ralph Lauren sweaters, Jessica Simpson shoes, Coach puffer jackets and Michael Kors' sneakers were also gifted.

Just as the group thought the gift-giving had ended, Winfrey revealed that she was giving them a trip to Fiji!

The two-hour special also featured behind-the-scenes footage of Winfrey with her O Magazine staff in meetings reviewing products for consideration to be added to the list.
