After a long and triumphant battle, a winner has been announced for the 2015 Women's World Cup.

On Sunday, the epic game took place when USA took the trophy home with a 5-2 score. All day, it was a mystery on who would win since both USA and Japan have won in the past. BBC mentioned that Japan beat England 2-1 in the semi-final and conquered USA 3-1 on penalties after it had finished 2-2.

But then in 2012 during the Olympic Games in London, USA took the prize when Japan was defeated at 2-1.

"It's a revenge match for both sides," Japan defender Saki Kumugai said. "Compared to four years ago or even two years ago all our team members have grown. It will be a game where all of us will show how we have developed our skills."

USA player Carli Lloyd opened up on how the team was doing everything they could to give all of their muscle and confidence to the tournament.

"I want to bring everything I have to this game," Lloyd said. "Everything is on the line and my foot is on the full pedal force. Our confidence is growing, it grew against China and Germany and now it's no regrets, full throttle."

"We know what's at stake and have to play our best," she added. "We'll be able to weather the storm, we've got fresh legs and are physically fit."
