Ex Sues Shakira For $100 Million For Not Paying Him Profits
Shakira's ex-boyfriend/manager filed a $100 million lawsuit against the singer for not paying him his share of her business profits after they broke up in 2010, according to reports.
Under Antonio de la Rúa's management, the "Loca" singer earned "tens of millions of dollars" touring, and scored a $300 million deal with Live Nation., according to the lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court. Rua was fired by Shakira's lawyer in October of 2011 but according to the suit, the Columbian singer stopped paying Rua any of the profits or property rightfully his even before that time.
The lawsuit claimed that their business contact extended through October 2011, but the singer stopped paying Rua after they broke up in 2010.
Rúa and Shakira started dating in 2000 and after her 2004 tour, she asked him to take over "the business behind the Shakira brand," according to The New York Post.
Shakira is pregnant with her first child with Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique. She tweeted a picture of her baby bump back in October, saying, "Now I don't have a six pack, only one pack!!" In an interview with German broadcaster RTL, she confirmed that she and Piqué are expecting a baby boy. Spanish media webstite elnuevodia.com reported that Shakira and Pique will name their son Biel.
The singer will replace Christiana Aguilera as a mentor in the new season of "The Voice," a NBC reality singing competition. She will join fellow mentors Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and newcomer Usher. Cee Lo Green will take the season off like Aguilera to focus on his music.
Shakira signed on with Jay Z's Roc Nation in early 2012 to produce her latest album. The two-time Grammy award winner's first major American hit was 2006's "Whenever, Wherever."
