‘Devious Maids’ Cast: Rebecca Wisocky Dishes On ‘Surprising’ & ‘Delightful’ Twists For Evelyn & Adrian [EXCLUSIVE]
Things are about to get even more interesting for Beverly Hills' most hard-to-please employer, Evelyn Powell (played by Rebecca Wisocky), on Devious Maids . After an already action-packed season that's seen Evelyn bring a murder investigation to light by discovering Louis Becker's leg, embarrass Genevieve (Susan Lucci) by releasing her sex tape, and then stumbling across Blanca's (Naya Rivera) body, the best may be yet to come.
In a recent sit down with Enstars, Wisocky talked about Evelyn's crazy season so far, and teased what fans can expect for her and Adrian (Tom Irwin) going forward. She also dished on the cast and crew's reaction to Donald Trump's recent controversial comments about Mexicans.
Enstars: I have to say that I'm a really big fan of [Evelyn] because she's so...snarky. We'll go with snarky.
Rebecca Wisocky: She reveals many, many levels, just when you think that you get her down, she does something out of character. And I think at the beginning of it all, it just seemed like she was going to be this arch-evil b**ch. But the brilliance of Marc Cherry [the show's creator], he writes such brilliant and complex roles for women, and I've been allowed to make her deeper and vulnerable and funny and adorable and outrageous and all kinds of things.
Evelyn's been having quite a few memorable moments this season, Which one would you say is your favorite?
Oh boy, going to the sex club with Tom Irwin, that was a lot of fun! I don't want to spoil anything for you, but...I think you're really going to be surprised and delighted with what happens at the Powell house. Adrian will come home from the hospital at the beginning of the next episode and Evelyn might just have a surprise waiting for him.
It seems like with all the twists and turns this season, Evelyn somehow continues to find herself being the one bringing these crazy situations out into the public eye.
Murder does seem to follow her around. It's like a moth to a flame.
Do you think that trouble is maybe something she's secretly craving in her life?
Hmmm...well, that's a good question. I think that she has to have that tendency being married to Adrian Powell don't you?
So outside of that small little teaser you gave me before, is there any other hints you can provide about what's in store for Evelyn for the rest of the season?
When Evelyn Powell makes up her mind that she wants something, you can be pretty sure that she's going to find a way, no matter how sketchy, to make it happen...I don't want to spoil anything for you, but there is a new actor that joins our company for the remainder of the season, and the actor is quite talented and precocious and of...smaller stature.
So being that Evelyn found part of Louis' body and she did find Blanca's, any ideas you want to venture out there about who may be responsible for their murders?
Well, it appears as though Blanca has killed herself out of guilt for being in this obsessive, delusional love relationship with Louis Becker. Now...I don't think that's probably true. I imagine it's possible, but chances are good that by the end of the season that some villain will rear his or her head. There's a lot more destruction and trips to the ER, and explosions and flames and death...there's a lot more drama in store.
Hypothetically, if you were to be told tomorrow that the show wasn't going to be picked up for a fourth season, would you be satisfied with how Evelyn's story gets wrapped up, or would you feel as if there wasn't much of a conclusion for her?
Well, I think one of the things that's so great about all the characters on the show, and the Powells in particular, is how they do this dance together, and I think it could be interesting to watch for years. That said, by the end of the season, the Powells come to a place that I think will be what you won't ever have expected, and...big, big things, big cliffhangers and conclusions at the Powell house by the end of the season.
Would I be satisfied? Oh no, I'd be horrified! I would love to continue playing Evelyn Powell for a while yet. But um...there is a pretty amazing ending to the Powell storyline this year.
It's to be said, Devious Maids is a show which embraces and celebrates diversity of all types, between the cultural differences and the economic ones between the maids and their employers, like the Powells. Is that a part of what maybe drew you to this role of Evelyn and the show in general?
Yes, most definitely. I think that there's a degree of savvy and danger and satire, and at our best, the show takes a risky and satirical look at that...and I think it does it with a great deal of humor as well and I like that very much.
The controversy surrounding Donald Trump's comments when he announced his presidential bid led to two of your co-stars, Roselyn Sanchez and Cristian de la Fuente, dropping out as co-hosts for his annual Miss USA Pageant. What was your take on the situation?
Well, we were on set when the news broke that Cristian and Ros had pulled out, and the aftermath that followed. And suffice it to say, the entire cast and crew and company stopped production for a second to give a round of applause. That's the answer to your question.
Is there anything else you wanted to add about Season 3?
Season 3, it just keeps getting faster and furiouser and better. Everyone is really in a pickle this year...there are more secrets yet to be revealed, and again, I had so much fun with the storyline we're about to get into with the Powells. I can't wait for the world to see what happens next with Evelyn and Adrian Powell, and whether or not that have room in their home for the pitter-patter of little feet.
Devious Maids airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.
