Zoë Saldana and Sam Worthington will reprise their Avatar roles as Neytiri and Jake Sully respectively in three sequels to the 2009 film. Director James Cameron is making the sequels back-to-back-to-back, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The second Avatar movie will hit theaters in December 2016, with the third to follow in December 2017 and the fourth in December 2018. -
James Cameron Confirms "Avatar" Sequels
Movie director James Cameron, known for producing the two biggest-selling movies in the history of film, "Avatar" and "Titanic," has confirmed that a sequel for "Avatar" is in the works. In an exclusive interview with the New York Times Cameron revealed that "Avatar 2" is slated to arrive in theaters in 2015. Cameron's "Avatar" came out in December, 2009 and is the biggest film of all time, grossing over $ 2.7 billion in ticket sales worldwide.
