Degrassi continues its legacy where the teenagers will experience the epic world of social media.

'Degrassi' Producer Is 'Really Excited' For Where Series Is Going

On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter shared details from franchise creator Linda Schuyler who revealed what fans can expect when the series comes to Netflix with 20 new episodes. It turns out that the new characters will work their way into technology, which comes with its own advantages- but not everyone will be that into it.

"They're having to learn the social media protocol as they go along, and it's a protocol that their parents don't even understand," Schuyler said of next season.

Whatever happens, having a storyline involved with this kind of life gives great opportunities for the series.

"The audience keeps renewing itself and the fact that technology keeps changing and the way kids communicate is changing, it gives us lots of opportunities to keep the stories fresh and new," the creator said.

It won't be all about smart phones and tweeting though. Schuyler pointed out that fans can expect all the troubling yet uplifting experience that any high school student can go through.

"At its core, it's the teenage experience of the 1980s and 1990s, and then the millennials, and now we're talking to Generation Z," the producer revealed. "There's so much common experience that all teenagers go through, that's the familiar side of Degrassi."

Degrassi: Next Class will be released on Friday, January 15, 2016 on Netflix.
