She may have played the law on A&E's Longmire, but in real-life Katee Sackhoff is excited to talk about her journey as an "outlaw."

Cassidy Freeman Gives Adorable Reason Why 'Longmire' Should Return

On Wednesday the actress opened up to HIV Plus Magazine about her charity Acting Outlaws, as well as how she feels about the cancellation of her beloved A&E series after three seasons as the network's highest-rated scripted drama.

"Acting Outlaws really started because Tricia [Hefler] and I really have always kind of questioned what to do with the soapbox we're given as actors," explained Sackhoff, whose organization strives to raise awareness for HIV. "She and I had wanted to kind of really marry our love of riding motorcycles with our sort of lifelong ethical [responsibility]."

Cast Says 'Longmire' Bond Was 'Deep And Real'

Sackhoff began riding motorcycles since 2005. Two years later, a friend opened up to her about being HIV-positive and as they talked the actress realized the stigma associated with being HIV-positive and that she wanted to do something to help people diagnosed with it.

As the actress transitioned into talking about her time on Longmire, which was cancelled around the time of her most recent Acting Outlaws ride, Sackhoff declared that it was nice to have played someone so "normal" in terms of being a relatable person.

"I'd never played a character who was like me," she admitted. "And so I really kind of jumped at that opportunity."

While fans were heartbroken and shocked when A&E decided to drop the series, Sackhoff revealed that she understood how it could happen.

"I'm not surprised. My fiance is a producer…" she explained. "As an actor living with someone like that you're a fly on the wall and get to learn things. Key demographics in this business are a hold, and that key demo is 18-to-25. Shows are won and lost and bought and sold and movies succeed or fail based on that key demo."

Producers are currently shopping Longmire around with other networks and if the series does find a new home for Season 4, it will likely return with new episodes sometime during the later half of 2015.
