Many Samsung customers around the world have been waiting to update their Galaxy S3 devices with the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS.

Now AT&T users will be able to access the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS update for their Samsung Galaxy S3 devices.

The company announced the news on Tuesday to the relief of many AT&T users waiting for the day to arrive, according to the Los Angeles Times.

However, the update will not be offered as part of an over-the-air (OTA) download. Users can acquire the new operating system by using the Samsung Kies update software.

AT&T customers who don't have the software must visit the Samsung website to install it and then to connect the device to the PC.

"Android 4.1 makes your phone easier to use and more powerful than ever," AT&T product manager Ryan Lee wrote in a blog post. "The many new features include Google Now, enhanced notifications and several camera updates such as the ability to pause and resume while recording and the low light photo mode, which offers improved picture quality for low light and indoor photos."

Sprint users became the first users to access the update, but other top U.S. carriers were confirmed in July to get the update include Verizon, U.S. Cellular and T-Mobile.

Samsung posted a web page to allow users that haven't been able to get the new OS to stay updated with the Jelly Bean's progress.

The Jelly Bean update is one of the most advanced in the mobile market and will help solidify the Samsung Galaxy S3 as the top contender against Apple's iPhone 5. The update has a few new features like the voice-typing Google Now and Project Butter, which provides better UI animations. It also makes internet browsing faster and allows better organization for an enhanced overall performance.
