Alaska Coffee Shop Abduction: Video Footage Released Of Barista's Kidnapping
Security footage showing the abduction of a barista in Alaska reveals the beginning of a tragic Feb. 1 encounter that ended with a gruesome murder of an unfortunate 18-year-old woman.
Samantha Koenig, the victim, had been sexually assaulted and strangled to death by Israel Keyes after being abducted from an Anchorage coffee shop. The body of the young girl was then left inside a shed for two weeks while the murderer proceeded to go on a cruise.
Upon his return, the 34-year-old killer took a Polaroid picture of a tied-up Koenig along with a Feb. 13 newspaper in order to bogusly fake that the teen was still alive.
Before he eventually dismembered Koenig's body, Keyes typed out a ransom note to Keonig's family demanding $30,000. The killer also sent out a text to Keonig's boyfriend on her cell with the location of the note.
Koenig's dismembered body was eventually disposed of in Matanuska Lake, which is north of Anchorage. Keyes reportedly cut a hole in the ice with a chainsaw to dispose of it. The body was eventually found by the authorities on April 2
The gruesome events that occurred were detailed by the FBI on Tuesday, which was two days after Keyes was found dead himself in an Anchorage jail cell from what looked to be a suicide.
"These details are being provided both to fully explain the courage and resolve Samantha displayed in the final hours of her life, as well as in the hopes that the release of additional details will help investigations of other murders committed by Israel Keyes," said the FBI in a statement, according to NBC News.
Keyes, 34, was initially arrested in March this year after attempting to use Keonig's stolen debit card at a Texas ATM. Before his death, Keyes was set to go on trial for her murder.
Prior to his death, Keyes allegedly confessed to killing at least seven other individuals throughout the U.S. over the past decade. His other known victims were allegedly Bill and Lorraine Currier of Essex, Vt., who went missing in June 2011. Keyes also informed the authorities that he sexually assaulted and strangled Lorraine Currier.
