Diane Keaton Honored For Leadership At Women In Entertainment Event
Diane Keaton received the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at the 21st annual Women In Entertainment breakfast event held on Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.
The 66-year-old actress was honored at the event, hosted in association with the Hollywood Reporter, that pays tribune to powerful and influential women in Hollywood. Previous Lansing award winners include Meryl Streep, Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren, and Keaton said in her acceptance speech that she knew she wanted to say something better than they did upon receiving the award.
"I just wanted my speech to be the most touching, heartfelt, funniest, yet also persuasive, because that's what a leader is," the Oscar winner said. "I just knew that my speech had to be way better than Meryl Streep's speech or Jane Fonda or Helen Mirren."
Keaton also said that her mother, who died in 2008 of Alzheimer's, was her "first and most inspired leader," according to the AP.
The breakfast coincided with the publication of the Hollywood Reporter's annual Power 100 ranking of entertainment's most influential women. Anne Sweeney, co-chairman of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television Group, topped the list for the third year.
Keaton, a California native, is remembered by fans for her roles in many acclaimed films, such as Al Pacino's wife in "The Godfather" films, Mandy Moore's mother in "Because I Said So," Jack Nicholson's lover in "Something's Gotta Give" and many more. She began her acting career in 1970, with one of her first films being "Lovers and Other Strangers." She has won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and BAFTA Award, among her many nominations.
She will star in the 2013 film "The Big Wedding" about a long-time divorced couple that pretends they are still together as their family reunites for a wedding.
