JCP Ad Offends Moms by Showing Ellen DeGeneres
One Million Moms doesn't find Ellen DeGeneres funny.
The activist group was recently offended by the female comedian and television host's appearance in a holiday advertisement for JCPenney. In the Christmas-themed commercial that debuted on Nov. 27, DeGeneres meets with three elves from Santa's workshop and asks them to make more toys in anticipation for a new contest by the retailer.
The ad ends with DeGeneres accidentally making fun of the elves' diminutive size saying, "I know this is no small feat." She tries to correct her words and says, "Well, it's a big deal," but gives up ending with "Who wants a cookie?"
One Million Moms petitioned against the openly gay comedian being in the ads and called for the removal of the commercial, according to The Huffington Post. The group also called for DeGeneres to be removed as a spokesperson for JCPenney.
"Since April, JCPenney has not aired Ellen DeGeneres in one of their commercials until now," the organization said on Tuesday in a statement on their website. "A new JCP ad features Ellen and three elves. JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again. Christians must now vote with their wallets. We have contacted JC Penney's several times in the past with our concerns, and they will not listen.
"They have decided to ignore our complaints so we will avoid them at all costs."
This isn't the first time the activist organization has targeted DeGeneres and JCPenney.
In February, One Million Moms began their petition against the talk show host when she was announced as a spokesperson for the retailer.
The groups' efforts haven't seemed to faze DeGeneres, who responded to the anti-gay protesters on her show in February, jokingly saying: "For a group that calls themselves One Million Moms, they only have 40,000 members on their page. So, they are rounding to the nearest million, and I get that."
