Earlier this month, The New York Times Magazine wrote a cover story on the 1965 Voting Rights Act and the effort by Conservatives to dismantle it. The piece, entitled ''A Dream Undone: Inside the 50-year campaign to roll back the Voting Rights Act" by Jim Rutenberg, was so good President Obama wrote a letter to the editor praising it and the famed voting legislation.

If you were rooting for your home baseball team last night, then you were certainly happy...no matter what team won. That's because ALL the MLB teams playing on their home field won yesterday. Statistically this has a 1 in 32,768 chance of occurring though it's happened before, it was the first time so many teams made up the home team sweep.

Remember Todd Akin, the Missouri politician who infamously said that during "legitimate rape" the female body shuts down conception? Well, Claire McCaskill, the Democrat who beat Akin in the 2012 Senate election, just copped to helping him win the Republican nomination, spending more money advertising for Akin in the last two weeks of the primary than he did in his whole primary campaign.

Massive explosions rocked the Chinese city of Tianjn. So far, a little over half a dozen people have been reported dead and hundreds more are injured. Like most everything this day and age, the devastation was captured on cellphone video.

The rebooted Fantastic Four officially bombed at the box office but provided a salacious and entertaining behind-the-scenes story of how filmmakers dropped the ball on adapting one of the most beloved superhero teams for the silver screen.

Today is World Elephant Day, which (surprise surprise) is all about raising awareness on elephants...15,000 of which are poached every year.

Vanity Fair published an article about the dating app Tinder, a Millennial favorite, criticizing it for promoting hook-up culture. The tech company or at least the person running its Twitter account was not happy and posting an epic rant across two dozen tweets that claimed, among other things, that people don't just use Tinder to hook up and that people in North Korea (the military dictatorship that has death camps and looks like this from space) like to use the app as an alternative to Facebook. Suuuuuureeee.

A biotech company has reportedly found success transplanting organs grown in genetically engineered pigs into primates, which means that in the near future we'll be able to have replacement hearts, kidneys and more, courtesy of Babe.

Annnnd in our cute kicker/sad story of the day, Uggie, the dog from the 2011 Academy-Award winning silent film, The Artist, has died. The 13-year-old Jack Russell terrier was put to sleep after battling cancer.
