Green Monday 2012 Deals; Free Shipping and Cyber Deals on Busiest Shipping Day
There's Black Friday, Cyber Monday and even Small Business Saturday, but now make room for Green Monday.
The second Monday in December, better known as Green Monday, has become a hit with shoppers online for getting the best shipping deals.
Many online retailers are offering free shipping as part of deals to get people shopping almost two weeks away from Christmas Day.
The free shipping deals have attracted many shoppers and now Green Monday is expected to be the biggest shipping day of the year for FedEx.
According to the global shipping company, more than 19 million packages are expected to move through their system today. That figure is double the normal daily package movement rate and this year is planned to exceed last year's rush by about 10 percent.
Apart from new orders being placed today, many of the packages being shipped are flowing over from the purchases that were made on Cyber Monday.
"Increased e-commerce spending is directly contributing to record holiday FedEx volumes and a 10 percent year-over-year increase in volume from 2011," FedEx officials said in a statement reported by CBS News.
Many retailers are participating with deals on shipping, but Green Monday hasn't been as heavily advertised as its famous competing consumer days.
Some stores are offering more than just deals on shipping.
Walmart is offering 50-inch HDTVs for under $399 along with other assorted merchandise for around 50 percent off.

Online customers looking to get their packages mailed in time for Christmas need to act soon as the delivery cutoff on the holiday with FedEx Ground is Dec. 17. After that, shoppers will have to use premium FedEx Express delivery service as a requirement with a last day to ship of Dec. 22.
