Jackpot Winner's Name Released: Arizona Man Takes $192 Million Powerball Payout
The massive $587.5 million Powerball jackpot has a second winner, an Arizona man named Matthew Good.
Good, a 37 year old who lives in Fountain Hills, Arizona, shares the jackpot with one previously announced winner from Dearborn, Mo., and he has accepted a one-time payout of $192 million, according to a report from USA Today.
Good made the choice to remain anonymous after claiming his winnings from the Nov. 28 Powerball drawing, but the names of lottery winners are a matter of public record in Arizona. The Associated Press filed a public records request to obtain Good's name and subsequently published it.
The brand new multi-millionaire released a statement to the public after claiming his winnings to express his and his family's unending gratitude for the windfall and give a small preview into how he might spend some of the winnings charitably.
"It is difficult to express just how thankful we are for this wonderful gift," Good's statement said. "We are extremely grateful and feel fortunate to now have an increased ability to support our charities and causes. Obviously, this has been incredibly overwhelming and we have always cherished our privacy."
Good's once in a lifetime win came after he spent $10 on tickets for the enormous lottery.
"Good bought $10 worth of tickets and kept the winner in the visor of his car overnight before realizing he was an instant millionaire," USA Today reported. "Lotto officials said he gave $20 to the cashier of a Fountain Hills convenience store, and the clerk nudged him to spend the entire amount on tickets. He declined the offer. After Good and his wife learned of their good fortune, he pulled together a team of financial advisers and decided to take his share this month to avoid potentially higher taxes in 2013."
