A Texas father is accused of carving a pentagram into his young son's back with a box cutter.

Brent Troy Bartel was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on Wednesday for allegedly celebrating 12-12-12 as a "holy day" by cutting his 6-year-old son in Richland Hills.

Bartel placed a call to emergency services after he carved the symbol in his boy, according to the Sacramento Bee.

The dispatcher asked what the problem was and Bartel answered that he "shed some innocent blood," according to the recordings released to the press.

He later explained that he "inscribed a pentagram on my son" and said the reason for his actions was because Wednesday was "a holy day." Bartel then hung up the phone and officers were dispatched to the scene.

When police arrived they encountered the child's mother outside yelling, "He's trying to hurt my 6-year-old" and "Please hurry! Oh, God!"

The officers entered the house and found blood smeared on the front door. They also found the young boy wearing only pajama bottoms and his back carved with the symbol.

"There was a large pentagram carved into his back which covered the majority of his back," Richland Hills police Sgt. Nathan Stringer said in a news release reported by the Bee. "The child was found cold and shivering in the cold so officers wrapped him in a jacket."

The child was taken to a local children's hospital for treatment and Child Protective Services are working with the boy and his mother. The boy's mother has not been charged in the case.

Bartel was arrested and jailed on a $500,000 bond.

Authorities plan on giving the 39-year-old father a psychiatric evaluation while he remains in custody, according to Fox News.
