The Miss Universe preliminary competition starts tonight at 7 p.m. PST.

The events will broadcast live from the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

The show will feature 89 of the most beautiful women from around the world competing in one of the first major events leading up to the Miss Universe Pageant on Dec. 19.

The female contestants were greeted with a welcoming event last week followed by an orientation and various rehearsals.

Tonight's event will give fans a preview of what is to be expected at this year's main competition, but it's not the only time viewers will get to see the contestants. They will be judged in segments that include bathing suits, evening gowns, and an interview.

A national costume show will broadcast live tomorrow.

Both of the events will be featured in the web series "On the Scene" with Miss Universe Philippines 2011 winner Shamcey Supsup who will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the events leading up to the big night. The web series will air on the Miss Universe Youtube channel.

There is also Twitter page for fans to have their questions asked during the live broadcast to the paegent contestants.

Fans will get the chance to vote for their favorite beauty before the competition by visiting the site here, but voting ends on Dec. 18.

The following evening will be the 2012 Miss Universe Pageant which will have dual hosts.

Andy Cohen, Executive Vice President of Development and Talent for Bravo, will return to host this year's beauty competition for the second time in a row. He will be joined by E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic.

The show will also feature a musical performance by Grammy-award winning group Train.

With the crowning of a new Miss Universe means saying goodbye to the 2011 winner Leila Lopes.

The pageant's website talks Lopes saying, "Currently the longest reigning queen, 26-year-old Leila Lopes represents the country of Angola. She uses her title to champion HIV/AIDS prevention and has shown the world that there is more to Africa than poverty, hunger and disease."

The 2012 Miss Universe Pageant broadcasts live on Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. from Las Vegas where Lopes winner will crown her successor.
