Sig Sauer and Glocks Used by Ryan Lanza in Newtown Elementary School Shooting
At least two handguns were used by gunman Ryan Lanza during the tragic elementary school in Connecticut Friday morning.
According to CNN reports, one of the guns was a Sig Sauer and the other a Glock.
Another weapon was reportedly found, but not confirmed at this time. A Bushmaster assault rifle was supposedly found in the trunk of his vehicle by authorities on the scene.
The weapons were legally purchased according to reports from CBS News.
Lanza also brought with him a large amount of ammunition.
The24-year old wore a bullet-proof vest and tactical gear when he arrived at the school, according to Reuters.
The principal of the Sandy Hook Elementary School supposedly had an argument with Lanza and cursing was heard on the school broadcast system which first alerted the teachers to put their classes in lockdown.
The incident ended with the suspected gunman shooting himself to death, according to Yahoo News. His body was reportedly discovered inside one of the classrooms.
Multiple deaths have been reported involving students and staff but a total number has yet to be confirmed as police continue to investigate the scene. Around 27 people are dead in the second worst school shooting in the history of the United States that includes 18 children fatally shot, according to the Washington Post.
Investigators continue to look into the motives behind the heinous crime.
White House spokesman Jay Carney said President Obama was informed of the shooting at 10:30 a.m. ET. by homeland security adviser John Brennan.
The entire Newtown School District was locked down on high alert as a precaution for student and staff safety. The elementary school has around 700 students in attendance.
Newtown is in Fairfield County which is around 60 miles northeast of New York City.
