An Indiana man was arrested after he allegedly made a threat to kill several people.

Von I. Meyer was arrested the day after arguing with his wife on Friday when he told her that he would "kill as many people as he could" at a local elementary school, according to ABC.

Interim Cedar Lake Police Chief Jerry Smith said Meyer first threatened to set fire to their home while his wife was sleeping inside, but later said that he would kill her "at the school," referring to her work at the cafeteria of the Jane Ball Elementary School where she works.

Chief Smith added that Meyer allegedly said he "would kill as many people as he could before police could stop him."

Meyers was taken into custody on Saturday after fleeing his home and returning later to find police waiting for him. The gun enthusiast is being held at the Lake County Jail with a hearing pending on charges of felony intimidation, domestic battery and resisting law enforcement.

After Meyer was arrested, police discovered 47 guns in his possession with around $100,000 worth of ammunition, according to CBS News. Many of the weapons were collector's guns owned by the firearms enthusiast.

Authorities now believe the 60-year-old man was bluffing when he made the threatening remark to his wife. He was taken into custody as a precaution due to the tragic elementary school shooting in Newtown, CT that occurred on the same day.

The words Meyer used were inappropriate, but the police say he just said the wrong things at the wrong time.

"If people followed through on all the threats they've ever made - things said in anger that they don't really mean and regret - our population in this country would be half of what it is," Chief Smith said. "This was something he said in the heat of an argument. He hadn't been plotting this."
