Kim Davis: Kentucky Clerk Jailed For Contempt Of Court, How Did Christian Conservatives React On Social Media? [PHOTO]
A saga involving a Kentucky Clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples despite being required to do so by law has now seen her imprisoned for contempt of court.
Kim Davis Continues Denying Marriage Licenses
Kim Davis, the Rowan County Clerk, had previously been ordered to uphold the SCOTUS ruling from June and issue licenses to same-sex couples in her district, but continued to hold out and refuse to do so earlier this week, citing her religious beliefs and "God's Authority." Now, after a hearing earlier today on contempt of court charges, U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning ruled to imprison her until she began issuing licenses.
According to reports, the judge chose to jail her because imposing fines wouldn't work due to supporters already raising funds to pay her fines for her.
More Details About Kim Davis' Past Revealed
Naturally the ruling has caused a debate on Twitter, as Christian Conservatives have blasted the decision, saying she was jailed simply for being Christian and claiming that the war on Christianity has begun:
Seriously? They’re jailing Kim Davis? Good grief.

This is BS! I do not believe in separation between church and state! This country was founded on Godly... https://t.co/IxOKOY1xRJ — Angel Haber (@ADH0928) September 3, 2015
Of course, others are defending the decision for Davis to be punished for not following the law:
GASP NOW IT'S AGAINST THE LAW TO BE CHRISTIAN or maybe she was hauled off for defying court orders, you dummies: https://t.co/Syht8fmVgJ

Kim Davis isn't being incarcerated because of her religion, she didn't follow the law. And used her religion as the means to do it. — ShordeeDooWhop (@Nettaaaaaaaa) September 3, 2015
I keep thinking about the black Christians killed in that ame church... No conservative "lost it" when Dylan Roof executed them.

So if Kim Davis will use her religion to break the law re: marriage equality what other laws has she choosen to not uphold? I'm curious. — ShordeeDooWhop (@Nettaaaaaaaa) September 3, 2015
Jesus on hearing that Kim Davis is in jail: "Who? Oh, her. Good call. I didn't forgive her either. Even I don't have THAT kind of time!"

You don't have to support same sex marriage to issue a marriage license. But you do have to follow the U.S. Constitution, Kim Davis. — rolandsmartin (@rolandsmartin) September 3, 2015
Lies. Kim Davis wasn't being forced to "marry" them. She was being ordered to issue them a license. https://t.co/DGkzWmPRvJ

Maybe Kim Davis should have followed the law. Authorities gave her warnings. That's how this works, right? — Christian Lukens (@ChristianLukens) September 3, 2015
If Kim Davis heard the calling, shouldn't she have clothed the poor or fed the hungry instead of sitting behind a desk with a rubber stamp?
