Walter Palmer Update: Cecil The Lion Killer Returns To Work, Critics Plan New Protests Over Illegal Hunt? [PHOTO]
He became the most hated man in the US after his identity was revealed as the person behind Cecil the Lion's death, but now, dentist Walter Palmer is returning back to work and causing even more controversy.
Everything We Know About Cecil The Lion
In an interview with the Minneapolis Star-Tribune over the weekend, Dentist Walter Palmer spoke up for the first time since he was outed as the man who paid for a hunt which saw the 13-year-old famous lion get killed after what was said to be a 40-hour hunt-which Palmer has since denied.
In the interview, he not only blasted the social media backlash against him during the initial outcry, but also revealed that he plans on heading back to work immediately after the Labor Day holiday-the first time he would be back at River Bluff Dental since closing its doors amid the backlash.
Was Cecil The Lion's Brother Killed?
"I have a lot of staff members, and I'm a little heartbroken at the disruption in their lives," he said during the interview. "And I'm a health professional. I need to get back to my staff and my patients, and they want me back. That's why I'm back."
He also said he never went into hiding as was alleged, but kept a low profile out of fear for what would be said against his wife and daughter.
"This has been especially hard on my wife and my daughter," he said. "They've been threatened in the social media, and again...I don't understand that level of humanity to come after people not involved at all."
However, his comments have since renewed the backlash against him-and while some continue saying they hoped he would one day know the same pain he caused Cecil, others threatened to resume protests outside his practice and called those who choose to still use him as a dentist names as well.
