Adam Lanza Facebook: Impersonators Posting Under His Name May Be Prosecuted
Since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, a number of people created fake Twitter, YouTube and Facebook profiles impersonating Adam Lanza, the school shooter, according to ABC News.
Many of the accounts have been disabled by the social media outlets but still some exist. As of Wednesday, some Twitter accounts can be found under the name Adam Lanza, including one whose description said "Love Children, Love my mother, gun enthusiast." In their report, ABC noted as of Monday two accounts that had the descriptions "Murder for Hire" and "My name is Adam Lanza and I'm from Newton, CT. I hate kids."
At a Sunday news conference, Connecticut police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said some people on social media websites pretending to be Adam could be prosecuted.
"Misinformation is being posted on social media sites. There has been misinformation coming from people posing as the shooter in this case, using other IDs, mimicking this crime, crime scene and criminal activity that took place in this community," he said.
"It is important to note that we have discussed with federal authorities that these issues are crimes, they will be investigated statewide and federally, and prosecution will take place when people perpetrating this information are identified."
A number of Facebook accounts have been created under the Adam Lanza name to start discussions about the Newton school shooting. One account, created on Dec. 14 under the 20-year-old's name whom is described on the page as a "News Personality," was made for Facebook users "to express your hatred you feel towards this horrible tragedy and to keep you up to date with the events."
The account holder took to bashing out Adam by posting a photo of the Connecticut native and adding the caption "He still looks like a creep and psycho." Other comments made by the user included "adam you are still hated" and "you will burn in hell."
Investigation continues into the murder of 20 children and six adults at the elementary school on Friday, Dec. 14, and Adam's motive for going on a shooting rampage.
