Sandy Hook Rapper Creates Tribute Video For School Victims [WATCH]
A 9-year-old Brooklyn resident released a music video Saturday where he raps about guns and school children in a song dedicated to victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
Fourth-grader Amor "Lilman" Arteaga uploaded "Stop Da Violence" on YouTube one day after a shooting at the Newton, Conn., school that left 20 children and six adults dead. The video features a group of Brooklyn elementary school children chanting to "put the guns down, put the guns down." Arteaga also sported a shirt that said on it 'Stop Da Violence." The video addressed school bullying, gays and lesbians and suicide attempts by youths.
Arteaga rhymes the following lyrics amongst the background shouting:
"Put da guns down. Stop the killing. Think before you act, don't make a poor decision. The world is hurting, we all need healing. No more guns - what a wonderful feeling."
City Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-East Flatbush), made a cameo appearance in the video and rapped behind Arteaga, repeating "I know we can make it better. If we all work together" several times.
Arteaga spent the fall working on "Stop Da Violence" but after Friday's mass murder in Connecticut, he asked his father, Juan, to let him tie the song to the 26 victims, according to New York Daily News. Together they quickly worked to get the video on the Internet and use an accompanying photo of the Sandy Hook school.
"We felt it was the right thing to do. He's a child who is talking about stopping gun violence. And so many little kids were affected by this," said Juan. "We live in a community where people doing (shootings) is the norm."
Arteaga is no first time rapper. The East Flatbush native's song "Pull Ya Pants Up," which talks against saggy jeans, went viral over the summer.
