Navy SEAL Dies from Apparent Suicide in Afghanistan
A Navy SEAL officer was found dead Saturday in Afghanistan from a possible suicide.
Commander Job W. Price from Pottstown, Penn. was discovered dead from "non-combat related injury while supporting stability operations in (central) Uruzgan province, Afghanistan," according to a Defense Department statement reported by Yahoo News.
A statement made by an unidentified military official was reported by The Associated Press as saying Price was killed by a gunshot wound to the head. His body was found after he failed to report for duty on Saturday.
The incident involving the deceased 42-year-old senior Special Forces officer is currently under investigation.
Captain Robert Smith, commander of the Naval Special Warfare Group Two, said in a statement reported by The NY Daily News:
"The Naval Special Warfare family is deeply saddened by the loss of our teammate. We extend our condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family, friends, and NSW community during this time of grieving. As we mourn the loss and honor the memory of our fallen teammate, those he served with will continue to carry out the mission."
Price was an officer in the U.S. Navy since May 1993.
Price was a senior commander with the Virginia Beach SEAL Team 4 which supports the mission to train Afghan local police to fight Taliban forces in remote parts of Afghanistan. The Navy SEAL commander oversaw more than two dozen commandos and support staff conducting counterterrorism operations in insurgent-heavy Uruzgan.
At this time it is unclear exactly what the reason behind Price's suicide may have been as there are reports that he was involved in any military-related investigations or controversies.
He is survived by a wife Stephanie and nine-year-old daughter Jillian who were notified of his death at their home in Virginia Beach, VA, according to The Daily Mail.
