"I want to kill you," the 35-year-old player reportedly told his wife, according to the police report.
The assault report is alarming given that the couple are ambassadors of Jaden's Ladder, a group that helps domestic violence victims.
Nicole told police that she and her husband had hosted a Christmas party at which the player had had several alcoholic beverages, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
After the party ended, she reportedly asked him to help her prepare the house for Christmas morning, but Jones became angry and grabbed her left arm, she told police.
She pulled away and tried to escape but he grabbed her by the ankle, pulled her down and put his hands around the neck saying "I want to kill you," according to the Journal.
Nicole was able to escape and went to her parents' nearby home and called police.
A police officer wrote in the report that Jones appeared highly intoxicated the moment he was arrested.
"Andruw did not respond and it appeared as though he was passed out in his clothes," the officer wrote. "I touched Andruw on the arm and said 'Gwinnett County police, Andruw, we need to speak with you.' Andruw woke up and appeared dazed. He appeared heavily intoxicated and confused about why officers were standing in his bedroom," according to AP.
Jones was free on bond after his arrest. He was charged with battery, according to Gwinnett County Jail records, AP reported Wednesday.
