The indie horror film "Playback" starring Christian Slater was the lowest grossing film of 2012.

The 43-year-old "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" actor starred as the main character in the film that played on just one movie screen in March.

The film's IMDB page states the plot: "A cop investigates the case of a missing local teen, though he discovers a dark secret that has been unleashed in his town, and an evil spirit that will stop at nothing to find its heir."

The main reason for the film's troubled record was due to its short theatrical run.

"Playback" made $252 on its box office debut and grossed only $264 in its short screening, according to The Daily Mail. Around 33 people bought tickets to the film before it was pulled from theaters.

The film was released on DVD in the U.S. on May 8 and is available on movie streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Other actors who starred in the film include Johnny Pacar from "Make It or Break It" and Toby Hemingway from the Academy Award winning "Black Swan."

While the film only took in $264 it was made on an estimated budget of $7.5 million.

"Playback" may have been the biggest box office bomb, but it was not the only one.

Children's movie "Oogieloves In The BIG Balloon Adventure" took a hard hit during its theatrical release. The film only managed to generate around $448,000 in over 2,160 theaters during its opening weekend and had a total gross of $1,064,277. Gerard Butler's surfing film "Chasing Mavericks" also joined the bottom list with a total gross of just $5 million.

Another film that made a record was the R-rated comedy "Project X" which was the most pirated movie on file-sharing website BitTorrent in 2012. According to The Business Journal, the film was the lowest grossing title that was on this year's list when compared to big blockbuster releases such as "The Dark Knight Rises."
