That Gay Simpsons Character


Remember Waylon Smithers? The character who's the right hand man of Mr. Burns on The Simpsons? Well, he's gay. Yeah, yeah, we know even people who stopped watching the show over a decade ago know he's gay from the classic reference and asides, but this Sunday Smithers will come out as gay...to Mr. Burns.

Obama Vs Putin Over Syria


For you non-news-junkies, the United Nations is meeting this week for its 70th general assembly. And that means lots of international politicking and speechmaking. The issue that's center stage is Syria, which is in the middle of a civil war that's been flooding Europe with refugees. The two main opposing points of views belong to Russia (which argues to support dictator Bashar al-Assad) and the United States (which is in favor of helping out the moderate, non-extremists, rebels). The two nations' leaders, President Vladimir Putin and President Barack Obama, squared off in dueling speeches on Monday, each advocating for their approach.

Here Are Your 2015 MacArthur Geniuses


The MacArthur Foundation
announced this year's winner of its annual fellowship, which have become known as "genius grants" to us everyday dumb-dumbs (even though that's not what they're called). The two dozen winners, who will receive $625,000 over the next five years, include journalist/author Ta-Nehisi Coates, Broadway writer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, and painter Nicole Eisenman.

King Tut's Secret Rooms


Even though it was discovered almost a hundred years ago (and kicked off a phase of ancient Egypt obsession around the world), King Tuts' Tomb seems to still be full of surprises. A recent examination of the archaeological site has found evidence of two previously undiscovered hidden rooms in the Tutankhamun's legendary resting place that may in fact be the resting place of Nefertiti, the principle wife of pharaoh's father.

Facebook Down


Social media giant, Facebook was down for the second time in a week last night. The outage reportedly only lasted for 40 minutes and sent the company's shares down 4 percent.
