Eva Longoria Obama Inauguration; Actress to Host 'Latino Inaugural 2013' Celebration at the Kennedy Center
Eva Longoria will host an event ahead of President Barack Obama's inauguration to celebrate his re-election and the role of Latinos in politics.
The event, "Latino Inaugural 2013: In Performance at the Kennedy Center," is scheduled to take place on Jan. 20 at the Kennedy Center. Longoria is hosting the event as well as performing her role as a co-chair of Obama's inauguration festivities, according to Fox News.
"Latinos played a critical role in this year's elections and helped tip the scales in President Obama's victory. But we are not waiting another four years to make an impact on our country's future," Longoria said in a statement on Tuesday, reported by The Associated Press. "What better way to establish our presence at these inaugural celebrations than by showcasing the beauty and diversity of our culture at the nation's premier performing arts center."
Joining her will other celebrity Latino entertainers and performances by George Lopez, Mario Lopez and Rita Moreno.
The Latino inaugural gathering is driven in part by organizers of The Futuro Fund, which helped mobilize Latino support for the Obama-Biden re-election. The 37-year-old former "Desperate Housewives" star has been a vocal supporter of President Obama. During his acceptance speech on Nov. 6, Longoria cried tears of joy and not long after the speech the actress posted her feelings on Twitter.
"Me and my friends celebrating. I'm [in] tears. Moving the country forward. Obama!" Longoria tweeted. She followed that up with, "Amazing speech by [Obama] re-elected for his 2nd term! America is and can be united for the greater good of all Americans!"
The actress continued on by tweeting, "We did it!!! Obama re-elected!!!!! Yes!! Yes We Can!"
President Obama received around 75 percent of support from Latino voters, according to The Huffington Post.
