At least two people were reportedly shot Thursday morning at Taft Union High School in California and the suspected shooter is in police custody.

The incident took place at around 9:30 a.m. local time at the Kern County school, according to ABC 23 in Bakersfield.

The suspected gunman was apprehended about 20 minutes after the shooting began and police recovered an unidentified weapon.

Local police are currently searching the area and going room to room in order to clear the school.

The first reports from the scene stated that one person was injured in the attack, but it appears that was not the case.

Two people were reportedly shot - the first victim only suffered minor injuries and refused treatment, according to KGET. The second was supposedly airlifted to Kern Medical Center. Details on the second victim's injuries have not yet been reported as well as a confirmation of all the victims.

It is unclear at this time the identity of the victims and the shooter as well if any of them were students at the high school. ABC 23 reported that one of the victims was a teacher and that students hid in the closet while the incident occurred.

The students and faculty were evacuated from the school and moved to a nearby football field while investigators cleared the scene.

Debra Elliott, who works with the Taft city manager's office, stated that the full figures of the incidient are being reviewed by public safety officials, according to The Los Angeles Times. Elliot added that the school remains in lockdown as of around 10 a.m. and that parents started picking their children up from school.

This is the latest school shooting in less than a month since the devastating rampage by Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook Elementary on Dec. 14 in Newtown, Conn. Lanza was responsible for killing himself and 26 others in the shooting.
