No Pants Subway Ride Participated by Thousands of NYC Residents in Underwear
Thousands of New Yorkers rode on the subway without pants for a fun annual event.
The 12th annual No Pants Subway Ride had around 4,000 participants who used the busy subway system without skirts, shorts or pants.
The event, which takes place every January, was not just limited to New York as it was practiced in around 60 cities and in over 25 countries.
The No Pants Subway Ride was established by the group Improv Everywhere which frequently holds public acts of silliness. In addition to the No Pants Subway Ride, the group holds its annual Black Tie Beach event, a synchronized swimming event (in a public fountain) and a "Black Friday" shopping frenzy at a dollar store.
The group posted a message on Facebook on Saturday with some encouraging news about the balmy weather for the pants-less participants: "To everyone riding public transit pantless around the globe tomorrow, have fun! We're expecting the warmest ride ever in New York. 58°F!"
The weather did not stop the thousands of dedicated citizens of New York City who were looking forward to showing off their assets to weekend subway strangers.
Improv Everywhere explained their event to the public on the group's website: "The idea behind No Pants is simple: Random passengers board a subway car at separate stops in the middle of winter without pants. The participants do not behave as if they know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants."
The event apparently went off without a hitch as no incidents were reported.
CNN posted a picture gallery of some of this year's participants and stated that it appears New Yorkers have an overall "lack of quality undergarments."
