Natalie Wood Death: New Details Surrounding Altered Death Certificate Released
Newly released information about actress Natalie Wood's death revealed that the coroner's officials altered her death certificate last year based on unanswered questions about bruises found on her upper body, according to ABC News.
The initial report written following her death lacked sufficient evidence and it was concluded that the actress drowned under unknown circumstances over 30 years ago. However, the death certificate was changed last year from a drowning to "drowning and other undetermined factors" after taking into consideration bruises and scratches found on Wood's face and arms.
Los Angeles County coroner's officials said in a 10-page addendum to Wood's autopsy report that a few of the bruises may have occurred before she drowned, but they couldn't be "definitively determined."
The changes in the report also noted that it is still "not clearly established" how the actress ended up in the water where she was found.
Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran stated the following in the newly released report:
"The location of the bruises, the multiplicity of the bruises, lack of head trauma, or facial bruising support bruising having occurred prior to entry in the water. Since there are unanswered questions and limited additional evidence available for evaluation, it is opined by this Medical Examiner that the manner of death should be left as undetermined."
The latest details into the investigation do not address many lingering queries about Wood's death and a sheriff's department spokesperson said the ongoing status of the case hasn't been changed.
Officials re-opened Wood's case in 2011.
Contributing to the unsolved mystery of her death are conflicting stories of what had occurred aboard the Splendour yacht on Nov. 29, 1981, that Wood, actor-hubby Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken were on in Catalina Island.
