A woman from New York wearing just an unzipped leather jacket was charged with driving while intoxicated, among other offenses, after she hit a wall in New Jersey and left the scene of the accident.

One of the residents of Grove Terrace in the Lake Mohawk area of Sparta, N.J., called police at roughly 12:53 a.m., saying a white Volkswagon Jetta crashed into a store retaining wall before fleeing the scene, according to the Daily Record.

Officer Joseph Pensado, who was in the vicinity conducting a routine patrol, saw the car just a short while later on West Shore Trail and stopped the vehicle.

Although the temperatures were near freezing, the policeman saw that the driver, Warwick, N.Y. resident Catherine Giaquinto, was wearing nothing else besides a leather jacket.

Upon speaking to the 36-year-old, Pensado instantly suspected that she was under the influence of alcohol. When he asked her why she was cruising in the nude, the woman denied being completely naked.

The officer also noticed the damage incurred to Giaquinto's left front bender, driver's side door and the rear left passenger's door, which all matched the damage to the retaining wall. The suspect's speech was said to be severally slurred and she wasn't making any sense. Also, Giaquinto reportedly couldn't recall were she was going.

The officer noticed a dress and other pieces of clothing in plain view on the rear passenger seat of the car. Pensado retrieved those items and told her to get dressed.

It reportedly took about 10 minutes for Giaquinto to put her clothing on. When she finished, the officer noted that Giaquinto had put on her dress inside out and backwards. The woman was then told to exit the vehicle and perform a series of sobriety tests, but she couldn't maintain her balance and was soon incarcerated.

Upon being processed, Giaquinto was said to be argumentative and disorderly. Sbe was ultimately charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath testing, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt and a documentation violation.
