'Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker' HD Reboot Announced Among Two Zelda Titles for Wii U
Nintendo announced Wednesday that a remake of "The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker" is in the works along with an untitled game in the series for the Wii U, set to be released on an unspecified date in fall 2013.
The news was released during a company presentation at the Nintendo Direct conference, according to Forbes.
The game will be a high-definition reboot version of the 2003 GameCube role-playing game. The new Zelda will update the cartoonish graphics of the old game for a re-mastered look and will be designed to be used with the new Nintendo GamePad.
A new trailer for the remake was posted to YouTube on Wednesday by the official UK branch of Nintendo.
The new game will be complete with new graphics and Off-TV Play which gives players a chance to play the game off the television screen using the GamePad controller.
In addition to the "Wind Waker" announcement, Nintendo also confirmed that another "Legend of Zelda" game will also be released.
The details on the untitled Zelda game are scarce but game producer Eiji Anomuma said it will "rethink the conventions" of Zelda, according to USA Today.
One of the issues that are being addressed for the title is having players complete dungeons in a specific order and making players play the game by themselves. Apparently, the team at Nintendo tried to address some of these issues in 2011's "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword," but was not able to fix everything.
No specifics as to what changes are in store were revealed, but Aonuma said there will be more to talk about as the game's development progresses.
The Zelda franchise has become beloved by fans since it debuted for the Nintendo NES system. The most recent Zelda title was "Skyward Sword," which has sold more than 3.42 million copies since it was released, according to GameSpot.
