With the obvious decline in the quality of the NFL Pro Bowl game over the last few years, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been strongly considering doing away with the all-star special altogether.

Goodell feels that the effort being given by the all-star players on the gridiron hasn't exactly been up to par. Hence, he suggested that the yearly showdown be discontinued if the situation doesn't turn around.

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster, one of this year's Pro Bowl participants, thinks that the Commissioner's point is easier said than done, as he's not the one of the players competing on the football field.

"This isn't basketball; you can't go play a pickup game of football. I think it's an honor and tradition, but for you to expect the best athletes in the NFL to come out and play a game 100 percent when you can't game plan, you can't blitz, you can't do all these things, it's not going to be competitive like everybody wants it to be," he told NFL.

Concurring with Foster's opinion, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning had some words of his own in regards to the potential axing of football's annual star showcase.

"Don't tell me there's not great value in that conversation. If they cancel this, then I think the NFL will lose that. Is there monetary value in that conversation? I would argue yes. I would argue that's helping keep the NFL as great as it is. So I'd hate for it to be cancelled."

Manning, who has played in various Pro Bowls over the course of his illustrious career, also noted that the game gives the NFL's rising stars an opportunity to interact with established veterans and former superstars.
