Microsoft Surface Pro Release Date Confirmed for Feb. 9 with $899 Price Tag for 64GB Model
Microsoft announced last week that the new Surface Pro tablet will be released on Feb. 9.
The company released a statement on Jan. 22 that revealed the new device is close to hitting the market in the U.S. and Canada.
The new device was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show that took place earlier this month and gave eager users a glimpse at Microsoft's laptop-tablet combination.
Microsoft has apparently been pleased with the first reactions to Surface Pro.
"The response to Surface has been exciting to see," said Panos Panay, general manager in charge of Microsoft Surface, in the company's statement. "We're thrilled to continue growing the Surface family with the availability of Surface Windows 8 Pro on Feb. 9 and by increasing the number of places customers can experience Surface firsthand."
The first reactions to the Surface Pro were generally impressive.
PC Advisor's review stated that the new tablet "shows lots of promise" with the mixed portability of high-end laptop-like performance capabilities when compared to other similar devices.
It also has 64GB of storage, which can be upgraded to 128GB for an extra $100. Surface Pro runs with 4GB of RAM, and a 10.6-inch, full 1080p display. There also will be a solitary mini-Display Port and USB 3.0 ports along with a micro-SDXC slot.
The tablet measures with a multi-touch 10.6-inch screen, .53-inches thick, 2-pounds, and has a battery life of around four to five hours on a full charge.
There is good news for eager consumers as the Surface Pro will not be restricted to the company's retail website and stores.
People will be able to buy the device from major retailers such as Staples, Best Buy, and online stores as well.
As for prices, the 64 GB model costs $899 while the 128 GB variant will have a price tag of $999, according to CNN.
