HTC M7 Release Date Feb. 19; Events to be Held in NYC and London for Launch?
HTC began sending invites for a press event in New York City on February 19, the same day the new HTC M7 was rumored to be officially released.
Engadget confirmed HTC's news announcement and added that another conference is expected to take place on the same day in London.
The company will also hold a press event in London on the same day as the NYC conference.
An Italian insider sent a tweet that read: "[Exclusive] HTC M7 to be launched during a dedicated event on February 19th, probably in London, not at #MWC13."
Dual events in London and NYC suggest the new M7 will be available in both North American and European markets near the same time on the market.
Previously, the Mobile World Congress in late February was cited as the most likely date for the handset's unveiling, but a more recent rumor suggests that HTC could be trying to beat everyone else to the punch by taking the wraps off the M7 on February 19.
The HTC M7 is said to feature a 4.7-inch 1080p HD display, quad-core Qualcomm processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a 13-megapixel rear camera (2-megapixel front snapper). It is expected to be similar to the HTC J Butterfly launched in Japan at the end of 2012 and run HTC's new Sense 5 UI.
The company is hoping that its new rumored HD-full device will help make 2013 better than 2012.
Last year was not exactly the best for HTC with the company struggling to raise its profile against Samsung in the Android market, and against Nokia when it came to Windows Phone. Those competitors, not to mention the absence of a tablet in HTC's line-up, left the firm with dwindling sales, according to CNET.
