Manchester United Transfer News: Celtic's Victor Wanyama a Target to Bolster Red Devils' Midfield?
As the transfer window looms, Manchester United will be looking to strengthen its football club like most of the other teams. One of the names that the Red Devils are targeting is Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama.
According to Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC, United would more than certainly put a bid up for the talented footballer. While the chances are meager at this point, the club would surely benefit from such an acquisition.
Although the Red Devils are currently sitting pretty above Manchester City and Chelsea in the Premier League with a seven-point lead, the team must address its midfield dilemma in order to be more successful in Champions League competition.
United is lacking a hard tackling player and Wanyama would be a great fit. While the team has central midfielders and attackers who are skilled at running at goal, none of the players seem to be above-average at sitting in front of the back four, which is where Wanyama's at his best.
To top it off, the Kenyan is not just a skilled defensive midfielder, as he also fits the mold of a bob-to-box midfielder similar to a Yaya Toure or Marouane Fellaini.
Although Wanyama is clearly not at the level of those respective players, he's just 21-years-old with a whole lot of untapped potential.
Wanyama can also give United an added benefit on the attack, as he's scored six league goals this season.
