Nintendo Announces Top 10 3DS Games for 2013: Pokémon X and Y, Luigi’s Mansion & Professor Layton [List]
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced on Thursday the top 10 new titles for the Nintendo 3DS to hopefully raise the company's sales figures.
Iwata discussed the top titles in a third quarter financial briefing reported by Official Nintendo Magazine, and he stated that this year will be crucial for the 3DS gaming system.
"For the overseas Nintendo 3DS markets, this year will be a good harvest time of what we have developed for these two years," Iwata said. "We plan to intensively and actively sell approximately 10 key titles on our own in order to change the Nintendo 3DS system from a handheld device just to play the Mario series to the one to enjoy a variety of games.
"Naturally, we will keep the momentum of already-released titles with much sales potential by, for example, having them digitally distributed."
The ten titles include the following: Fire Emblem Awakening, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Brain Age: Concentration Training, LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins, Animal Crossing: New Leaf , Monster Hunter 4, and Pokémon X and Y .
Third-party developers in Japan will also begin development of other games for the 3DS to be shipped to overseas markets. Iwata announced the tenth game in the following statement, according to Siliconera.
"Among those third-party titles both developed and published in Japan, there have been some games which Nintendo published in Europe, including the Professor Layton series."
Nintendo released the company's earnings statements this week with plans to slash its sales target for the new Wii U by 27 percent after its recent poor holiday launch in overseas markets.
Nintendo had set a goal of selling 5.5 million units through March, the end of its fiscal year, but now aims for 4 million as the company sold only 3 million units since its launch in November.
However, the Nintendo 3DS handheld game player was the highlight of the company's financials during the period - tallying 12.7 million unit sales, up from the 11.4 million sold a year earlier, according to Forbes.
