PS4 Release Date Feb. 20? New Teaser Trailer Released for Upcoming Sony Event
Sony is planning a big event on Feb. 20 in New York that is said to revolve around the future of PlayStation.
A new teaser video, posted on Sony's official YouTube PlayStation channel, released on Thursday hinted that the tech giant plans on potentially revealing details about the PlayStation 4 gaming console, according to The Washington Post.
The video does not reveal much but simply displayed a rendering of the iconic PlayStation controller symbols before fading into the console's logo and the announcement date.
Sony's latest event declaration comes a little earlier than expected, based on recent rumors.
The magazine Game Informer in mid-January reported that both Microsoft and Sony had planned for "Apple-style press conferences" to take place in late March to introduce their next-generation consoles, dubbed Xbox 720 and PlayStation Orbis respectively.
It's not clear what's in store for the Orbis platform, but the latest rumored specs for the upcoming console show a gaming console with power.
The rumored specifications for the PS4 includes: an 8GB system memory, 2.2 GB video memory, an eight-core AMD64 "Bulldozer" CPU and an AMD R10XX GPU, four USB 3.0 ports, a Blu-Ray drive, 160GB HDD, and an audio output equipped with HDMI & Optical, 2.0, 5.1 & 7.1 channels.
There are also rumors that there will be a new design for the console's DualShock controller.
Even if Sony introduces the next PlayStation on February 20, it is still not clear when the new console would hit store shelves.
Both Microsoft and Sony are expected to announce their initial game lineups and features for the new consoles during E3 in June. And most video game watchers expect the two new consoles to debut towards the end of the year in time for the holiday season.
The PS4 has been in the works for a few years as the company released its last console, the PlayStation 3, in 2006.
