Facebook announced the introduction of the Facebook Card on its newsroom website on Thursday which stated that it is a reusable gift card that can be used at Jamba Juice, Olive Garden, Sephora, and Target.

The new card is reportedly different than other gift cards as Facebook members can purchase and send it to the friends they have on the social-networking site. This new card is meant to work at multiple retailers, is refillable and integrates with the Facebook app.

The multitasking gift card is accessible from the "Gift Cards and Digital" category within Facebook Gifts.

In order to send a Facebook Card, users select one of the four retailers and specify an amount. The recipient is sent a physical gift card using standard mail. The Facebook Card then becomes the person's universal card that refreshes in value with any future gift card a friend on the social networking site sends their way.

The card can handle multiple balances from each of the participating retailers, though each balance can only be used at the specified retailer. That means users can't pool funds and spend as they please at Target, Jamba Juice, Sephora, and Olive Garden.

Facebook Card holders can view their balances on Facebook and will receive notifications when an incoming digital gift ups their balance at a retailer.

The card is an extension of the Gifts feature that Facebook launched in September for physical goods like chocolate, shirts, flowers and wine, as well as virtual items like donations to charity, Uber credit and Netflix subscriptions. It also offered gift cards for specific vendors such as Starbucks and iTunes.

The terms of the relationship between Facebook and the retailers participating in the card service was not disclosed as well as any plans by the social networking site for adding additional stores to the roster, according to CNET.
