GTA 5 Release Date Sept. 17; Game Launch for PS4 and Xbox 720?
Rockstar Games announced Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) will be available on Sept. 17 and game analysts suggest it will be poised for a release on PS4 and Xbox 720 gaming consoles.
The September release date was announced by the gaming company on its website on Thursday with an open letter to GTA 5 fans.
Rockstar apologized to gamers for the pushed back date, but said it was necessary to make the game the best it can be.
"We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time," the company's letter stated. "GTA 5 is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require."
Doug Creutz, an analyst from Cowen & Company, talked to Trusted Reviews about the release date for the game and the likelihood that it will be launched on the next generation consoles.
Creutz commented that the push back date for GTA 5 will likely not have much of an impact on the title itself.
He also stated the game's publisher will likely get ready to release the game for PS4 and Xbox 720, saying, "We suspect Take-Two may have plans to eventually publish GTA 5 on the next set of consoles in some form to offset this."
GTA 5 has been confirmed for Xbox 360 and PS3 with other versions possibly in the works.
Dan Houser, vice president for Rockstar, told IGN in an interview that PC and Wii U versions of the game may be released, saying, "Everything else is up for consideration. That's all I can give you."
