iPhone & iPad iOS 6 Jailbreak Untethered Update Now Available; Details
An iOS hacking team that calls itself Evad3rs announced a tool to jailbreak devices running iOS 6 on their Twitter account on Monday morning.
The tool is named evasiOn and is available on the group's official website which claims it can jailbreak iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, and 6.1 on all compatible iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.
The hacking group originally posted that the new tool would be released on Sunday but the completed break went online Monday.
The new untethered jailbreak process will only take 5 minutes to complete, but expect a full guide to go live as well for those that will be trying a jailbreak for the very first time.
The Evad3rs website listed a few of the requirements in order to complete the jailbreak.
Users will first need a computer, running Windows (XP minimum), Mac OS X (10.5 minimum) or Linux (x86 / x86_64). They will also be required to have an iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 6.0 through 6.1. The last piece that is needed is a simple USB cable that is able to connect the desired device into the computer being used to complete the process, according to CultofMac.
The iOS jailbreak eliminates Apple's limitations on devices running the company's latest operating system through the use of software tweaks.
The jailbreak process defeats the built-in security and DRM features of iOS, allowing greater flexibility in customization, the ability to install apps outside of the official App Store, and access to iOS's underlying UNIX internals.
A tethered system means the procedure must be repeated every time the smartphone reboots.
The process of jailbreaking devices has grown more difficult in recent years due to security improvements by Apple and the lack of new exploits designed for long-lasting breaks on many iOS devices, according to TechCrunch.
