Girl, 6, Crashes Car In Pittsburgh While Mother Was Fast Asleep, Details
The Pittsburgh police say that a 6-year-old girl didn't injure anybody when she crashed her mother's vehicle while attempting to drive across town to visit her father.
Authorities have still not released the name of the little girl whose mother was reportedly fast asleep when the child took her car keys at roughly 9 a.m. on Sunday.
According to ABC News, Police Sgt. Jerry Parker told media that the little girl is fairly tall for her age, but also said "How she knew how to operate a car, your guess is as good as mine."
Police state that the child smashed into two parked cars and pushed one of them into a third. However, the vehicle finally came to a stop after hitting a utility pole.
The girl actually managed to drive her mother's BMW about a half a mile before even crashing into anything. Although she wasn't injured during the incident, the girl came close to crashing into one of the neighbors, who was outside shoveling snow.
"I thought she was going to hit me, but then she stopped just in time not to hit me, and as I observed, she was this little kid. She couldn't have been more than 8 or 9 years old," Rommie Hawkins said, according to the Huffington Post.
While no charges have yet to be filed, police are still investigating the accident.
Although 6 may be a bit young to operate a motor vehicle, children as young as 4-years-old have been in the news for taking off with their parents' cars. A Swedish toddler was responsible for causing a small accident last fall when he took his mother's car while she was sleeping, but not before making three successful turns.
Also, a 7-year-old boy stole his grandmother's vehicle with a friend in South Florida in 2008 because he was angry. The boy took down two mail boxes, hit two parked cars and two moving cars, according to the site.
