22 Killed In Collision As Gravel-Filled Truck Crushes Workers In Dubai, Details
Twenty two Asian employees of a cleaning company were instantly killed in a major car accident in Al Ain in Saih Sabra district of Dubai on Monday morning, Abu Dhabi police stated.
According to Emirates 24/7, the horrific incident occurred at roughly 8am, and involved a trailer colliding into a bus that was in the midst of transporting laborers to their scheduled place to work.
The industrial trailer was said to be moving a large supply of building materials such as a cargo of gravel, which ended up falling on top of the workers and ultimately leading to their deaths.
The ordeal happened on the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road, which is fairly close to Al Rawdah Palace, roughly 40km from the town of Al Ain. The bus was said to have had about 50 employees on board.
Abu Dhabi Police helicopters came to the rescue of the surviving workers and transported them to hospitals within the Al Ain Area, where they are currently undergoing treatment at various locations.
A majority of the late victims were said to be nationals of Bangladesh. Their bodies were removed from the scene and brought to the Al Ain Hospital.
Hussein Al Harethi, who is the Director of the Department of Traffic and Patrols of Abu Dhabi Police, stated that the accident occurred because of a truck that veered off the roadway. The truck then reportedly collided into the bus, not leaving a sufficient enough amount of distance for the bus to pass, states the news site.
The per capita death toll on UAE roads is considered to be one of the highest in the world, according to World Health Organization data. The UAE is a federation that is composed of seven emirates, which includes trade and tourism hotbed Dubai as well as the oil-wealthy Abu Dhabi.
