Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini to Release as Galaxy Exhibit for T-Mobile in March?
T-Mobile is allegedly going to offer the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini under the name Samsung Galaxy Exhibit in the U.S., Unwired View reported Monday.
It is not the first time Samsung released devices with the name Exhibit -the South Korean tech giant unveiled other handsets that include the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G and Samsung Exhibit II.
The Samsung Galaxy Exhibit (model number SGH-T599) is in Pebble Gray and is the second carrier variant of the Galaxy S3 Mini to hit the U.S., following the Galaxy Axiom for US Cellular, according to PhonesReview. The Galaxy Axiom sells for $29.99 for a two-year contract, so T-Mobile may offer the Exhibit in a similar price range.
The announcement changes previous perceptions that U.S. customers would not be able to purchase Samsung's miniature device.
The Galaxy S3 Mini was launched last October, but users in the U.S. were unable to receive the device due to a lawsuit between Apple and Samsung. Samsung even mocked the patent infringement suit during the company's latest Super Bowl advertisement, according to MacObserver.
The Galaxy Exhibit will keep the same form factor of the Galaxy S3 Mini, but with rearranged buttons such as the back button on the right, and the menu button on the left.
Aside from the new name, the device will mimic the Galaxy S3 Mini specs, which include a 1GHz dual-core processor, 4-inch display with resolution of 800 x 480, 1GB of RAM, and 8 or 16GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD to 32GB. The phone also has a 5-megapixel rear camera with 720p video capture, VGA front-facing camera and a 1500 mAh battery.
Samsung's new device will reportedly come pre-loaded with a Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
T-Mobile has yet to confirm the availability and price for the new Samsung device, which will possibly be released around the end of March.
